PROJECT - FUTURE VOICES
WELCOME TO FUTURE VOICES
Future Voices is an interactive, research-based experience created by undergraduate students in the Bachelor of Media Production and Design (BMPD) program at Carleton University.
The project explores one of the most pressing challenges in Canadian democracy: why young people are disengaging from civic life, and what we can do about it.
Built like a journey through a city, the site invites you to move through a series of stations, each one unpacking a different dimension of youth civic engagement. Along the way, you'll encounter findings from real interviews with young Canadians, key barriers identified through research, and perspectives on what a more engaged future could look like.
Grounded in both literature review and qualitative interviews, the team identified six major barriers driving youth disconnection from politics and public life, from gaps in political knowledge and low self-efficacy, to the pressures of cost of living, misinformation, and political polarization.
